Event Details

Author and artist Yvonne Pepin-Wakefield will give a PowerPoint presentation on the log cabin she built at age 18 in the Strawberry Mountain Wilderness in Northeastern Oregon.

Almost five decades later, the cabin and Yvonne have weathered the years, and both continue to stand seasoned and proud. During this time, she wrote three books about her experiences there. Babe in the Woods: Path of Totality, just released, is the third in a series about her life in this wilderness cabin. Her presentation will include discussion of the new book and a visual tour of the cabin and its early construction.

No longer her primary residence, Yvonne continues to go to this off-the grid cabin; reading and writing by the light of the original kerosene lamps, heating with a wood burning stove and splitting wood with the same ax she used as a teenager.

When she is not at the cabin Yvonne lives in a newly built home, studio and gallery on the banks of the Columbia River in The Dalles. Signed copies of Babe in the Woods series will be available.
