Join us in-person at Goldendale Community Library or online for a conversation with author Joshua Frank and his book Atomic Days: The Untold Story of the Most Toxic Place in America. Published in 2022 by Haymarket Books, Atomic Days investigates the cleanup efforts at the Hanford Nuclear Reservation, located in Benton County, Washington, with a focus on the challenges involved with the project as well as the efforts of whistleblowers and community members.

Joshua Frank is an award-winning California-based journalist and co-editor of CounterPunch. He is a co-author of several books, most recently The Big Heat: Earth on the Brink (AK Press).


This is a hybrid program, with the option of meeting online or in-person.

Revolutionary Reads is an annual community reads program with the goal of galvanizing the SW Washington community to read the same book, on a topic of revolutionary importance. Revolutionary is defined as “involving or causing a complete and dramatic change” and/or “radically new or innovative; outside or beyond established procedure, principles, etc.” 2023’s program will focus on the Hanford Site, located on the Columbia River in Benton County, WA. This program will explore the past, present, and future impacts the decommissioned nuclear production complex has on the people, places, and environment in Washington State. 

Free copies of the book Atomic Days: the Untold Story of the Most Toxic Place in America by Joshua Frank are available at all FVRLibraries locations while supplies last.
