The back story...This art exhibition is a collection of images of our neighbors in the Gorge community who chose to participate in the Earth Portrait Project. Youth, adults, & elders were invited to hold the Earth I painted, then share what they love about it. Next, participants were invited to describe what activities they do currently or intend to do for the future — to care for the Earth in ways that address the challenges we face with a warming planet, caused by greenhouse gases such as fossil fuel pollution.

This project evolved in response to the voices of young people who are expressing their concern and despair for the future and well-being of human life and the life of all species on our planet, due to the continuous destruction we now witness from wildfires, unrelenting hurricanes and droughts. The future looks worrisome to them. Our human activities have contributed to the over-heating of the air and oceans on our planet.

Our youth say, “You are expecting us to fix this... but we don’t know what to do.” My hope is for this collection of images to offer our youth & one another an opportunity to learn about the actions of their friends and neighbors who are consciously changing how they are living. Be curious, talk with one another, and take action to choose
healthier solutions that will to assure a nourishing & vibrant future for our youth & all species.

Please join the community in finding ways to lend a hand, using your talents and interests for creating a hopeful future for all.
