Artist's statement:

Nancy Maria Guzman is a Mexican Animator, Painter, and Designer based out of Bingen, Washington. As a young artist and throughout her career, she has continued to develop her style in painting realism. She has contributed to plenty of local shows and exhibitions, including Design Week, REC Fest, RACC, and Expand Frames: Fears and Fantasies. She’s also collaborated with local community organizations and public museums, showcasing her work at The Gorge Heritage Museum and creating murals for the city of White Salmon, Henkle Middle School, and St. Joseph Catholic Church. Nancy graduated from the Pacific Northwest College of Art with a Bachelor of Fine Arts, focused on Animated Arts, in 2016.

I am a faith-based artist who works with beauty, rawness, and vivid realism. I am inspired by people and the genuine shapes, lines and shadows that create a person. I like to reflect those details of realism into my work. My interest in representation began with drawing people and continued in my practice with paint, sculpture and animation. Animation has given me the power to become even more observant of life and learn the body language of those around me.

My mom is a cosmetologist, And I grew up in a world of hair shows and beauty salons. Because of that, I like to incorporate moments of beauty in my work. My sense of what is beautiful is vibrant colors, soft brush strokes, textures, and deeply thought-out designed stories.

Most importantly I like to create faith-based work. My parents immigrated from Mexico. I was raised to have a firm grasp of the Catholic faith. I willingly choose to follow through with what God has given me and that is the passion to create work that is not overlooked as easily done but evokes raw real emotion. Emotions that may bring doubt but always end up with Hope.
