Strings of Complements: Practice in Color Theory
More than 24 quilts were created by members of the Columbia River Gorge Quilters’ Guild during a three-month program in the winter of 2023. The program covered the three major properties of color and how to use them to affect our visual and emotional response to finished quilts. To practice what they were learning, the quilters were challenged to make a string quilt from narrow strips, using only two complementary colors, along with a full range of tints and shades of those two colors. The possibilities were endless and the results are as unique as the individual creating each quilt.
Pictured quilt is "Spring and Fall in the Gorge" by Debbie Rogers, Goldendale, WA.
The exhibit will be available through June in the library’s community gallery, during library open hours.
