Polychromatism & Constitution
polychromatic
adjective
poly·chro·mat·ic
showing a variety or a change of colors : multicolored
constitution
noun
con·sti·tu·tion
1. a body of fundamental principles or established precedents according to which a state or other organization is acknowledged to be governed.
2. the composition of something.
3. a person's physical state with regard to vitality, health, and strength; a person's mental or psychological makeup.
When I think about the primary characteristics of my current collection of pieces, color and texture are the two words that stand out. Color has always been in my personality. Both metaphorically and physically, it is present at my table. The last few years, I've been incorporating texture into some of my pieces. I've developed an affinity for sculpture, but I am still in the early stages of becoming familiar with that medium. Playing around with layers, perspective, light, and new ingredients has been a less risky method of breathing life into my creations. I think of the word "constitution" as a hearty, stalwart concept, but as we know from our own bodies, it can also change suddenly. These two definitions, "polychromatic" and "constitution" speak to this moment in time on my canvases and make me wonder with fondness where my creativity will go from here.
The exhibit is available for viewing September 2-30, during library open hours.
