Create unique pieces of art with paper!

Origami Instructor Yuki Martin shares the art of folding paper into decorative shapes and figures to teach you how to create an origami basket in this step by step instructional video available throughout the summer with this on-demand YouTube video. All you need for making this basket is a piece of letter size (8.5"x11") paper and a pair of scissors. You will cut the paper into two pieces, a 8.5"x8.5" square, and a 8.5"x2.5" rectangle. The rectangle piece will turn into a handle, while the square portion will be the main basket, and these two pieces will be attached securely without glue or tape; an origami magic trick! Towards the end of the video, Yuki will show some variations of this basket model. For ages 5 and up.

Supplies needed:
- A piece of letter size (8.5"x11") paper
- Cutting tool (scissors, etc)

The word origami is based on the Japanese words oru “to fold” and kami “paper”.

Born and raised in Japan Yuki enjoyed a fair share of origami just like most Japanese children, but had forgotten about it as she grew older. It is only since 2006 that Yuki started folding paper again, while teaching school aged children. Yuki’s interest in origami grew over the years since then, and it eventually became her main subject to teach, and her passion.
