Event Details
Join us for a facilitated discussion of a work of popular fiction. Copies of the month's title are available at the downtown Vancouver Community Library for sign-out at the Accounts Desk.
For June we will read: The Girl Who Fell From the Sky, by Heidi W. Durrow.
After a family tragedy, young Rachel Morse is sent to Portland to live with her paternal grandmother. There she suddenly discovers the difficult subject of race. Her father, an American serviceman posted overseas, is black. Her Danish mother, whom he met in Europe, was white. During her early childhood in Europe, having parents with different colored skin didn't seem very important. But in America she learns that the question of her race matters to everyone around her.
We will meet in person in the Columbia Room. We are limiting the size of this group to 20 people, so please let us know if you plan to attend by either registering on this page, or signing out a copy of the discussion book at the Accounts Desk.
