"Great paintings start with great and unique grounds," presented by KC Madsen

This workshop will explore various kinds of gessos and other surfaces that start a painting. Whether the surface is panel, board, paper or canvas the first layer effects the last. We will explore different gesso types from over the counter typical art store gessos to homemade gesso and out of the art store into the construction supply store realm. Each will be available to test and use on a sample board.

Collage as a surface will also be demonstrated. Adhesives for collage will be shown and how they work differently to create a surface for painting.

This is a hands-on workshop and participation in using the materials will be encouraged.
