October - Shoulder the Lion: Art and Resilience in the Face of Tragedy 2015, 1 hr 13 mins Using art as the catalyst, this film explores how the human spirit prevails in the face of tragedy. Shoulder the Lion features three people; a photographer who becomes blind, a painter/sculptor (the real-life inspiration for "Million Dollar Baby") who loses half her brain in a boxing match, and a musician losing his hearing to tinnitus. Using art to illustrate change, this film explores how the human spirit prevails in the face of tragedy and what new meanings emerge that otherwise would not have been found if not for their disability. Official Selection at Hot Docs Canadian International Documentary Festival. Winner of Best US Documentary at the Hot Springs Documentary Film Festival. "This beautifully shot film ... uses sophisticated camera techniques and soundtracks to simulate the subjects' sensory deprivations and triumphs over adversity. This artistic film is a moving portrayal of the human spirit." Candace Smith, Booklist. |
