Overview of the Doughnut Economic Theory:  Living Sustainably Within the Earth's Life-supporting Systems

Kyle Diesner will discuss the components of the Doughnut Economics framework and how it can be used to think through environmental, social and economic challenges. Portland Bureau of Planning and Sustainability has used the Doughnut Economics framework on various projects, but it has not been used more broadly at the City of Portland.  Kyle has worked with Kate Raworth and will share approaches and lessons learned at the City of Portland through the Thriving Cities Initiative - a partnership between C40 and Doughnut Economics Action Lab.

Kyle Diesner is the Climate Action Program Coordinator at the City of Portland Bureau of Planning and Sustainability. He is an experienced policy analyst and a lead author for Portland’s 2015 Climate Action Plan. Kyle oversees Portland’s communitywide, city operations, and consumption-based emission inventories. Currently, Kyle is working on the City’s Sustainable Consumption Strategy, which seeks to understand the role of governments in reducing global emissions produced when local consumers purchase goods and materials made in other parts of the world. Kyle has a BS in Environmental Science from Humboldt State University and an Executive Master of Public Administration from Portland State University.
