For centuries, Washington State was thought to have no dinosaur fossils due to its geological history. An ancient ocean once covered the land, and volcanic activity buried any potential fossils beneath layers of rock. However, everything changed when two fossil hunters made an unexpected discovery on Sucia Island in the Pacific Ocean, northwest of Seattle. While searching for ancient shellfish fossils, they stumbled upon a puzzling find that sparked a thrilling mystery: Could it be from a dinosaur?
This new book delves into the fascinating story of this discovery and how the mystery was unraveled, leading to the identification of a dinosaur from Washington State. It also explores the hope and potential for uncovering more dinosaur clues in the future.
Kelly Milner Halls is an multi-award winning writer of nonfiction books for young readers.
Kelly had always been the weird kid – the kid who asked too many questions, the kid who couldn’t stop talking to her neighbors, and couldn’t find a book she wanted to read. As Kelly grew up and became a writer, the kids responded excitedly. Kelly writes “I’m living my dream. I’m not just writing fun books, I’m helping kids know it’s okay to be whoever they turn out to be.” Weird is a destination we share. Weird is a really fun state of mind.
