Program Description

Event Details

August's Topic: The Portland Protests. In response to George Floyd's murder May 25, 2020, Black Lives Matter protests surged around the country, including Vancouver and Portland. The situation in Portland evolved when federal forces arrived in July 2020. The most timely information has mainly been shared not by national media, but by activists and local journalists.

Journalists Sergio Olmos (@MrOlmos), Jonathan Levinson (@_jlevinson) with Oregon Public Broadcasting and Eder Campuzano (@edercampuzano) with the Oregonian will be joining this session to discuss their experiences covering the Black Lives Matter protests in Portland.

Misinformation and disinformation about current events spread fast online.  False, misleading, and misattributed stories and images add to the confusion about what is happening in today's world.

Join us monthly as we explore media coverage on a trending topic and practice looking for misleading content. Learn about skills and tools to help you stem the spread of misinformation.

This virtual meeting will be hosted via Zoom. The Zoom link will be shared with all registrants one hour before the program start time.
